Life is a Highway - Kraft Plus January Challenge

January 2020 Kraft Plus Challenge - Ponytails and Paper Fails

Welcome to 2020 and a new year of Kraft Plus Challenges! When I saw this month's inspiration graphic I loved how it took me immediately to the song "Life is a Highway".  That song was one of many that I still recall listening to over and over in my youth, and I was tempted to scrap about that as I do admit to being quite nostalgic :)

What an inspiring quote to get you started for 2020.  Life sure is a highway, and we have had many twists and turns this past year having moved towns, jobs and schools, made new friends and discovered new places.  Our life was almost turned upside down.  But, a year later, we are still enjoying the ride, it's highs and lows.

I ended up scrapping some photos I have had for quite some time (over 10 years in fact) from a major event that came to our sleepy town - the SA Freestyle MotoX Championships.  It was an awesome day and even though I'm not a big motorcycle fan, I did enjoy the showmanship and appreciate the level of skills the riders clearly exhibited.  My sis and sis-in-law also had a good time :)

I ended up stealing an Inkie Quill idea and did a bit of a "grab 5" to get my layout done.  My favourite thing by far is my new Studio Calico alpha stamps. These stamps are my first major supply purchase in a year or so.  I think they will be a worthwhile investment :) I also love the look of Kraft on Kraft.

Whatever your plans for January, I hope you get a chance to join us and share your entries on our Facebook community page.  Click here for more awesome design team inspo.

Berries & Butterflies Mini Class - Wilna Furstenberg, Page 1

Ponytails & Paper Fails - Today

I recently finished a set of pages from Wilna Furstenberg's Berries & Butterflies Mini Class.  I couldn't be happier with the results.  If you like pretty, flowy, yet casual pages then I couldn't recommend Wilna's online classes enough. These particular pages are a lesson in using acrylics and watercolours, and come with these GORGEOUS illustrations that you can print and cut and use over and over again.  Little tip: I love using these illustrations for quick and simple cards!

Over the next few weeks I'll be sharing these pages with you.  Photo Credit: Smarty Pants Photography

November Kraft + Challenge - Inspired by Floral Art

Can you believe it's November already?  Our team at Kraft + have put together some fabulous inspiration pages for you.  I recently worked on some Wilna Furstenberg pages (can't wait to show you). I have long loved Wilna's art and scrapbooking style so I was interested to see how it would go on the Kraft paper.  It ended up coming together so easily! I started with some acrylic paint, let that dry, then slopped on some watercolours. Let that dry and then laid out my page with this beautiful print and cut file from Wilna's store.  Check out our blog for more gorgeous inspiration and be sure to share your creations with us over on facebook! Happy Krafting xx

Rocket Girl

Ponytails & Paper Fails - Rocket Girl

I've been wanting to scrap these photos of my youngest for some years, but blue,  yellow and red and not really my go-to colours.  My favourite part of the page (other than my beautiful girl) is the title as it kinda ties in with Rocketman (the movie) which is popular at the moment.  I didn't have an E left in these thickers so I did the backwards 3 trick. Thanks for listening :)

October Kraft Plus Challenge - Hang Ten

Ponytails & Paper Fails - October Kraft Plus Challenge

 Kraft Plus

We have a fabulously colourful graphic to inspire you this month at Kraft Plus Challenges. I was inspired to use some gelli plate prints on my page.  Creating prints with a gelli plate is SO MUCH FUN!! If you haven't done it yet you need to get on it!  The bubbles were created with a stencil, black pen and some white watercolour paint.  Hang ten xx

Incy Wincy

Ponytails & Paper Fails - Incy Wincy

In August we are going all Jack and Jill on ya with this cute nursery rhyme graphic to inspire you.  I must admit I struggled a little with this, until I decided to journal about my long held fear of spiders!  Not exactly how I imagined a nursery-rhyme inspired page to go, but that is the beauty of challenges, they take you in all different directions!  Click on the graphic above for more awesome inspiration from our Design Team, and join in the fun with us at Kraft + Community :)

This Moment

Ponytails & Paper Fails - 123 Challenge Blog Entry

I used this challenge entry as an opportunity to learn how to chain stitch on my page - thanks to the fabulous Tiff Firth for showing me how!  The title was done with a Jane Davenport mermaid marker.  I find purple the hardest colour to scrap, but I'm happy with what I've done here with some beautiful Cocoa Vanilla Studio paper and die cuts.  Challenge details here.

My Strawberry Blonde

Ponytails & Paper Fails - Scrap the Girls Challenge

I just loved the colours in this month's Scrap the Girls challenge.  With my newfound love of paper piercing I set about piercing some vellum to help dull this patterned paper and add a bit of interest.  There is a lot going on in this page and so I had to learn to say "enough" :)

July Kraft + Challenge - Bollywood

Ponytails & Paper Fails - July 2019 Kraft Challenge

Happy July peeps! This month Kraft + have produced a colourful graphic to get your creative juices flowing - Bollywood style! I went a little left field here and got my inspiration from the henna tattoo picture.  I downloaded a picture from the internet and used it as a template to do some paper piercing (after some fails with trying to actually draw some henna tattoo designs!).  I LOVE the outcome, in fact I was planning on using the right side of this, but when I started and saw the flip side I knew I just had to use that side! June Kraft + Challenge - Patterns

The Grand Canyon - Ponytails and Paper Fails

http://kraftpluschallenges.blogspot.com/2019/06/june-2019-add-patterns.html

WOW can you believe it's June already??  This year is flying.  The team at Kraft + were stoked at the amount of entries we had for our May sketch challenge.  Let's keep the ball rolling in June with our "Add Patterns" challenge.  How much patterned paper have you got in your stash ??  I decided to go a bit artsy-fartsy this month and create my own background based on a photo I had taken at the Grand Canyon last year.  It's not exactly how I imagined it, but that's ok :) Hope to see your entry in the Facebook Kraft + Community!

May Scrap the Girls Challenge Entry - You and Me

As soon as I saw Sue Plumb's layout (it's gorgeous!) for the May Scrap the Girls Challenge I was instantly inspired to scrap!  I used elements predominantly from a The Scrappery Kit Club kit (sorry I can't remember which) and got a bit nostalgic.  I'm continuing on with my personal challenge of using up my patterned papers in backgrounds, I also used up some very old rub on's.

May Kraft + Challenge - Pink Hair Don't Care

http://kraftpluschallenges.blogspot.com/2019/05/may-2019-sketch-challenge.html

The fun continues at Kraft + Challenges with a funky sketch challenge for May.  Use the sketch and colour swatches for inspiration.  I love the simplicity of this particular sketch, but in saying that you can make it as simple or lavish as you want, that is the beauty of interpretation :) Do you prefer mood board or sketch challenges? Let me know in the comments below or through our Facebook community.  Hope you have fun with this one like I did.  Happy Krafting xx

Bubble Time

Ponytails and Paper Fails

Hi Scrappers, Happy mid March :) Just wanted to share a favourite creation of mine that I recently made using the Cocoa Vanilla Studio collection die cuts on their More Than Words page "Effervescent". The background was perfect for my bubble-themed page.  I love making connections between patterned paper and my photo.  Hope you are having a good month and getting some crafting done.

March Kraft + Challenge - Metallics and Jewels

Ponytails & Paper Fails

http://kraftpluschallenges.blogspot.com/2019/03/hello-march-metallics-and-jewels.html

Check out Kraft +'s awesome inspiration graphic above for some scrapping inspiration this month.  I jumped on the opportunity to use up some old bling I've had for years.  I've never had much luck using watercolours on Kraft, but I mixed up a couple of colours with some white gouache and hey presto! This Girl - Scrap The Girls February Challenge

Ponytails and Paper Fails
The Scrap The Girls February Mood Board has some awesome colours that I really enjoyed scrapping with this gorgeous photo of the warrior queen in my life - my little sis.  I have always admired her ability to put her ideas and dreams into action.  She doesn't wait for permission or ever doubts her capabilities.  To all the Warrior Queens!! xx

Love You - D Lish Scrap February Challenge

On my recent scrap weekend I was looking for inspo and came across the D-Lish Scraps February mood board.  I had to pair this photo with this spotty paper from Cocoa Vanilla Studio's Wild at Heart Collection and the rest just came together after that.  This little girl shows me so much love, it was a great opportunity to scrap about it. Anna's Craft Cupboard - February 2019 Challenge

Ponytails and Paper Fails

This last weekend I was fortunate to be amongst some very talented ladies on a mini scrap retreat.  There is something to be said about being around kindred spirits, it's a cleansing exercise for the soul.  It was an absolute blast and I'm very thankful to have been a part of it.  I also actually got some scrapping done! This layout was inspired by Anna's Craft Cupboard February mood board, and the Imagine Dragons song that happened to be on at the same time was the inspiration for the title :) I love when that happens.
